Tutta -Pizza- Fest

My kiddos know how much I love food, and this year for Mother’s Day we will be doing something a little different. We will be heading to the …A Tutta Pizza Fest at The Hollywood Palladium!

On May 13th join us for some good music, cooking demos, craft beer, and “Deep Dish” conversations…

Tutta -Pizza- Fest

About The Event

…A TUTTA PIZZA!

To celebrate this recognition, LA, Grow!, an annual community event that focuses on healthy eating and urban agriculture, and Los Angeles Times Food Bowl are bringing pizza makers from all over the world to the Hollywood Palladium for Pizza Fest: A Tutta Pizza! “Pizza, full steam ahead!”

This event will showcase over 20 food vendors, pizzerias, restaurants, and pizza trucks, alongside photo booths and sponsorship booths in the venue’s parking lot, lobby, and ballroom. During the course of the day, there will be cooking workshops, cooking demos, panel discussions, and a DJ spinning music. Plus, many special guests will be making appearances, including top pizza chefs Enzo Coccia, Nancy Silverton, Tony Gemignani, Zach Pollack, Daniele Uditi as well as L.A. Times restaurant critic Jonathan Gold, L.A. Times Deputy Food Editor Jenn Harris, and producer and host Phil Rosenthal (Somebody Feed Phil, Netflix).

Pappy’s Seafood By San Pedro’s Urban Harbor

Pappys-seafood

On a lazy Sunday morning my fam bam drove up to Pappy’s Seafood Restaurant in San Pedro, California. As we made our way to the restaurant, we rolled down the windows of the car to let the fresh ocean breeze hit our faces. The urban harbor views were just breathtaking…

As we drove up, we noticed the restaurant was located on a lovely street next to vintage shops, cafes, and and small art galleries. My kids love unique places like this, where we can stroll and be “artsy cool cats.”

Pappy’s Seafood menu emphasizes sustainable and local seafood, sourced fresh from the Port of Los Angeles. There are plenty of offerings for kids and families.

Thank you Pappy’s Seafood for inviting my family to dine at your restaurant. All opinions are my own.

pappys-seafood-bar

The eclectic nautical themed restaurant is a casual yet chic. The staff was friendly and patiently walked us through the menu options. pappys-seafood-beer

The ambiance is serene and inviting…

Pappy’s is the kind of place you can order a tall glass of beer, enjoy fresh seafood, and disconnect from the city’s hustle and bustle…

pappys-seafood-crab-cakes

Here’s a recap of what we ordered:

We started out with some appetizers to share…

The Crab Cakes were made with house tarter sauce and greens. They were both delicious and addicting.

pappys-seafood-appetizer

Crab & Artichoke Dip was rich in flavor and made with and make with parmesan and a penko crust.

pappys-seafood-hush-puppiesThe Hush Puppies were crispy and sweet. They are made with corn cake and honey butter. pappys-seafood-poke

My daughter ordered this colorful Poke Bowl. It was delicious and it had a sweet kick to it. It is made with Jasmine rice, edamame, grilled pineapple, toasted sesame seeds, seaweed, and avocado wasabi mousse.

pappys-seafood-lobster-roll

My personal highlight was the Lobster Roll.  It was moist and full of flavor. It was served a soft and crispy roll and made with lobster meat, house mayo, lemon dill, celery, red onion, chives, and garlic herb butter. Sooo good!

pappys-seafood-clambake

The Clambake was served with whole shrimp, corn on the cob, redskin potatoes, kielbasa sausage, clams, mussels, caramelized lemons, garlic herb butter, and bread rolls… Delicious and fun to share!

pappys-seafood-rendezvous

Thinking about throwing a private party?

The Rendezvous Room is a speakeasy lounge, private dining and event space in the back of the Pappy’s building that features a discreet entrance, private restrooms, projector, and independently curated music. Original marble flooring and rich navy blue wood paneled walls create a classic, refined backdrop for private events, both big and small. Decorated with a nod to the Papadakis family, the sophisticated private event space boasts a historic collection of photography curated by Taso Papadakis that highlights San Pedro’s colorful past and original liquor licenses from the 1930’s. The aesthetic seamlessly nods to the municipal functionality and nefarious Beacon Street activity, once dubbed the toughest four blocks in the world. Available exclusively for private gatherings, The Rendezvous Room’s lounge and dining room offer an intimate experience for up to 75 guests.

Pappy’s is a Seafood gem waiting to be discovered…

Relax And Refuel At Cafe Nordstrom

cafe-nordstrom-brea-mall

Shopping during the holidays can be a bit stressful. Last month, my family headed to Brea Mall to shop at our favorite stores and enjoy a tasty lunch.

Within a couple of hours we worked up an appetite, and before long my son said in his most dramatic voice, “Mom I’m hungry!” (note* he’s hungry all the time) Cafe Nordstrom was conveniently located on the 3rd floor at Nordstrom, and I figured this was a nice spot for us to unwind and refuel.

As I walked into the cafe it smelled heavenly… The Cafe is a casual yet chic, and evokes images of a contemporary European Marketplace. The menu had a great selection, and I knew it would be easy to please everyone of my kiddo’s palates.

Here’s a list of menu items that my family ordered with descriptions.

Bad To The Bone BBQ in San Juan Capistrano

 Bad-To-The-Bone

Friday night is family night and I generally stay out of the kitchen. By the end of the week, we are exhausted and ready for some fun. My family loves to eat out and catch up, and we recently heard about Bad To The Bone in San Juan Capistrano. This girl LOVES a juicy steak, and I was thrilled to check this place out!

Hosted:Thank you Bad To The Bone BBQ for inviting my family to dine at your restaurant. All opinions are my own.

Bad-To-The-Bone

There was a long line in front of the restaurant, so I knew this place had to be good since it appeared popular among the locals. As we walked in, the music was playing and the atmosphere had a great vibe. The decor was rustic and western. I couldn’t keep my eyes off the large plates that were being served to the guests.  The menu had a large selection to choose from, and the attentive staff walked me through the options.

We started off with these delish street tacos.  You can choose from smoked carnitas, pulled smoked chicken, brisket or fish…

Bad-To-The-Bone

We decided to split a four meat combo plate, which comes with two sides. We got chicken, brisket, tri tip, pulled pork, and baby back ribs, along with ranch beans and cole slaw. While waiting, we stocked up on the four BBQ sauces they offer – original, special, vinegar, and hot.

I also ordered a Mesquite Grilled Steak. This tender juicy Sirloin is severed with two sides.

Everything came out quickly and the food smelled heavenly. The portions were generous and the plates were easy to share.

Bad-To-The-Bone

My son ordered a hamburger and devoured it. The kids menu starts at $8.95.

There is also a great selection of sides such as cole slaw, ranch beans, garlic mashed potatoes, salads, and much more…The baked beans are just MMM!

The corn bread was fluffy and warm. It was so good, I ordered more to take home!

You cannot leave without eating dessert and trying the Chocolate Pecan Pie!

Bad-To-The-Bone

If you are looking for delicious food with plentiful portions, this is the spot! We love to support local businesses and we will definitely be back … I suggest making a reservation to avoid waiting in line. Go give it a try!

Seasalt Woodfire Grill: Santa Maria Style Barbecue in Huntington Beach

santa-maria-seasalt-woodfire-grill

Living in the Central Coast was a unique and a memorable experience… I have wonderful memories of taking my children on lovely hikes at Oso Flaco Lake, picnics at local wineries, and eating delicious Santa Maria barbecue. The food and wine is like no other, and continues to be a highlight in my memory book.

On weekends, my family loved driving up Broadway street in Santa Maria. Local churches and organizations would set up on the main road, to grill and fundraise for different causes. As we drove we could smell the amazing aroma of the barbecue pits grilling up tri-tip, linguisa, chicken, and other central coast favorites.

I recently heard about Seasalt Woodfire Grill in Huntington Beach, and I was thrilled to learn that I didn’t have to drive four hours up the coast to get some authentic, Santa Maria-Style barbecue. I was curious to know if this restaurant was the real deal, and let me tell you…. It is!

Thank you Seasalt Woodfire Grill for letting me review your restaurant. All opinions are my own.

seasalt-woodfire-grill

About Santa Maria Barbecue

Have you ever tried Santa Maria-style barbecue? If not, you MUST!

Santa Maria barbecue is unique and centered around beef tri-tip. It is usually seasoned with salt, black pepper, and garlic salt. It is grilled over coals of native coast live oak, and often referred to as “red oak” wood.

Pinquito Beans are also an important component of traditional central coast barbecue. They are a cross between small white beans and pinto beans. They grow well in the fertile soil, and in mild climate of the Santa Maria Valley.

santa-maria-huntington-beach
Photo credit to Seasalt Woodfire Grill

The ambiance is casual, yet chic. I could feel the Pacific Ocean breeze as I entered the restaurant. Patio seating is available, and surrounds a large fire pit.

Memory: This reminded me of our lazy days at Porter Ranch, when we would sit around a large fire pit, barbecue, and let the kids run free.

santa-maria-seasalt

Different seasoning are brought to the table to add a little flavor to the dishes. (if desired)

Seasalt-Woodfire-cocktail

As you walk into the restaurant, there is a full service bar. The Farm Craft Rim libations added to the whole Central Coast foodie experience.

I sipped on this fresh Grilled Piña cocktail (tequila + pineapple +jalapeño). It was much like my personality, and was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy… Sooo good.

We started out with the Tri Tip Nachos with manchego cheese sauce, cowboy cavier and Santa Maria Beans. They were tasty and we devoured them in 2.5 seconds!

The Whole Grilled Cauliflower with manchego cheese fandue, was appetizing and melted in my mouth.

I tried the Tri-Tip, Ribs, and Linguisa… The rustic presentation was impressive and the portions were generous. The meats were tender, juicy, and delectable.

The 12 ounce Spencer is also a great option.

Dessert anyone?

You cannot leave without eating dessert. Omar’s OG Pudding is to die for, and the Scorched S’mores is a MUST TRY!

The flavors at Seasalt Woodfire Grill were authentic, exquisite and reminded me of the beautiful time we lived in the Central Coast. I can’t wait to go back with family and friends… Cheers!

How To Throw A Fabulous End Of Summer Party

summer-party-flowers

Summertime has come to an end, and my kids are back to school. To celebrate the end of summer, I hosted a “End of Summer Party” for my girlfriends. I truly enjoy entertaining and creating memories with family and friends, and I have recently decided to incorporate fresh new elements into my blog. I will now include: party planning, tablescapes, recipes, and DIYs.

My talented friend and party planner Sandra Mendoza, and I collaborated on this simple yet beautiful party theme to share with you!

Here are some helpful tips when hosting a soiree….

Choose A Theme

Find a theme that is unique and inspires you…

When life gives you lemons… Throw a party!

My party planner and I chose this bright and colorful citrus theme.

“See kid’s inspiration can come from anywhere. I tell clients and anyone I work with parties,
weddings, showers, etc should reflect you and who you are. What inspires you daily or what
reflects who the celebration is for, and there are NO rules. Sometimes, the smallest or most
unusual thing can inspire a bigger picture.” – Party Planner, Sandra Mendoza

Plan Ahead

Don’t leave any planing to the last minute, that way you can spend time and enjoy your guests at your party.

Set The Mood

Decorate with fresh flowers, candles, and or homemade center pieces. I have learned that you
don’t need to spend a lot of money to create a special ambiance.

The decor was simple and chic, and it all came together beautifully. As you can see, we incorporated lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruit in our decor.

Warm Welcome

As your guests arrive, welcome them with a cocktail. This will help set the tone to your party.

Incorporate Small Details

Small party favors or little welcome gifts are always nice…

These mini limoncello bottles were available on ice for my guests.

Keep the menu simple. You don’t want to fuss or make a mess in the kitchen! Who has time anyway?

My menu included:

  • Fresh Summer Salad with Mozzarella, Spinach, and Basil with 18 year aged balsamic vinegar
  • Rosemary Lemon Chicken (grilled on cedar plank outside)
  • Lemon Asparagus Orzo Salad

The weather was perfect for grilling, so I made this Cedar Plank Lemon Rosemary Chicken.

Dessert- Keep It Simple!

Go to the grocery store or bakery and purchase ice cream, cookies, pie or cake.

For dessert we served lemon, lime, orange citrus flavored sorbet. I added a lemon Meyer cookie and garnished it with some mint, and served it in a martini glass. It looked elegant and there was no baking involved. Score!

Set Up DIY Station

Set up a DIY station, beauty station, and or play games. You want your guests engage and have fun!

I set up a sugar body this DIY Body Scrub Station with instructions.

The girls whipped up their own sugar scrub by adding coconut oil, citrus shavings, lavender, and essential oils. I provided mason jars so that they can take them home.

The Inspiration- My Lemon Print Summer Dress

Let me introduce you to my talented party planner Sandra Mendoza…

“Hi, I’m Sandra. I am a full time returning student (eek), a part-time party planner (Fun!),
and an always friend of Angela’s (Woohoo). I have known Angela, for some time, but have only
recently worked with her in the fun filled, exhausting, but amazing party planning world. She
contacted me in May about helping with her daughter, Tori’s 21st birthday party. I was happy
and excited to help bring the Toga party extravaganza vision they had to light. While planning
the party, Angela and I discussed her blog and how she was ready to bring new fresh elements
and content to it. We discussed doing some parties and DIY’s together. You could feel how
excited we both were for the upcoming things we wanted to do together. The first thing would be
a lady’s end of summer dinner. Something, simple, fresh, relaxing, and nice to celebrate the end
of a season. As we sat there discussing, planning, and scheming away her youngest daughter
brought in a package that had arrived. (Who doesn’t love a little happy mail). Angela opened the
package and it was a dress she had ordered, an adorable, lemon printed, summer dress. I loved it,
and then it hit me; this was our end of the summer party theme. The lemon print was simple,
fresh, and relaxing. I told Angela, and she agreed this was a great idea. So, off we went to plan
the perfect end of summer dinner party.

See kid’s inspiration can come from anywhere. I tell clients and anyone I work with parties,
weddings, showers, etc should reflect you and who you are. What inspires you daily or what
reflects who the celebration is for, and there are NO rules. Sometimes, the smallest or most
unusual thing can inspire a bigger picture. Maybe it’s a dress print or drinking beer instead of
wine in your wedding ceremony, or not having any traditional shower games, because that is not
who you are. Celebrations should be fun, easy, and how you want them to feel. Find what gives
you that feeling and you can make it your own perfect party! So, cheers to perfect parties, with
no rules, and inspiration that finds us in a million possible ways.”

My girlfriends and I relaxed, indulged, and enjoyed our special time together. It was fabulous, fun, and memorable. I hope I have inspired you to host your own soiree…

Stay tuned for the recipes I served at my party…

Cheers!
