Kids Create and Self-Publish A Book At Storymakery At Irvine Spectrum

storymakery-book

Do your children love to tell stories?

If so… You need to take them Storymakery in Irvine!

When I was little girl, my cousins and I told elaborate stories around our family’s campfire. We let our imaginations run free and we told stories about ghosts, fairies, and mystic lands. It would have been wonderful to have been able to document our tales. Now imagine, you can actually get your child’s stories published in a book! I recently took my son to Storymakery at Irvine Spectrum, and I was thrilled to discover this incredible place…

Storymakery is a creative space that allows children to create and make their dreams into reality. Creative writing allows children to express themselves artistically, and inspires them to dream BIG!

Thank you Storymakery for inviting my son to publish a book. All opinions are my own.

storymakery-writing-studio

The store was bright, colorful, and dreamy. It was a great place to get my son’s creative juices flowing. He was ecstatic about getting started, and the friendly staff walked him through and assisted him throughout the entire process.

storymakery-writing

I could see my son’s wheels spinning as he created the characters for his book. I loved to see him in his creative zone and in deep thought.

storymakery-book-making

My kiddo absolutely loved illustrating the characters for his book. The computer program was easy to use, and he was able to make each one of his characters unique. He created a wonderful adventure about a Wizard Dragon named Jeff.

storymakery-book

We chose the hard cover for my son’s book because we wanted it to be durable and long lasting. The final product was incredible, and we were thrilled with the outcome.

My son could not wait to show his book to our family and friends!

storymakery-author

During our visit, the children had the opportunity to meet guest author Lauren Jolliffe. She read her story, “The Adventures of Aunty Apple.”

Relax And Refuel At Cafe Nordstrom

cafe-nordstrom-brea-mall

Shopping during the holidays can be a bit stressful. Last month, my family headed to Brea Mall to shop at our favorite stores and enjoy a tasty lunch.

Within a couple of hours we worked up an appetite, and before long my son said in his most dramatic voice, “Mom I’m hungry!” (note* he’s hungry all the time) Cafe Nordstrom was conveniently located on the 3rd floor at Nordstrom, and I figured this was a nice spot for us to unwind and refuel.

As I walked into the cafe it smelled heavenly… The Cafe is a casual yet chic, and evokes images of a contemporary European Marketplace. The menu had a great selection, and I knew it would be easy to please everyone of my kiddo’s palates.

Here’s a list of menu items that my family ordered with descriptions.

Thank you Cafe Nordstrom At Brea Mall for hosting my family for lunch. All opinions are my own.

cafe-nordstrom-tomato-soup

Everything on the menu is colorful, fresh, and appetizing. The attentive staff walked me through the menu selection.

We started out with this delicious ROMA TOMATO BASIL SOUP.

cafe-nordstrom-salad

I was craving a salad and the waitress suggested this crisp and tangy CILANTRO LIME CHICKEN SALAD.

It is made with organic baby greens, romaine lettuce, jack cheese, tomato, grilled corn, pumpkin seeds, and a cilantro lime vinaigrette.

cafe-nordstrom-lobster-tostada

This LOBSTER TOSTADA  was so good I ordered two. (seasonal only)

It is made with a blue corn tortilla, refried beans, pickled squash, red onion, carrot, radish, pepitas, and cilantro aioli.

cafe-nordstrom-salmon

This BLACKENED WILD SALMON CAESAR is made with romaine lettuce, garlic croutons, parmesan cheese crisp, chili pepper aïoli, and caesar dressing.

cafe-nordstrom-santa-fe

This SANTA FE CHICKEN PANINI is made with blackened chicken, jack cheese, roasted red peppers, caramelized onion, avocado, chili pepper aïoli, and crisp country bread.

cafe-nordstrom-pizza

The handmade pizzas are AMAZING. You can choose from Margherita, Pepperoni & Mushroom, and this PROSCIUTTO & ARUGULA. It has basil pesto, fontina and parmesan cheese, and topped with a lemon arugula salad.

cafe-nordstrom-brownie

Dessert anyone?

The bakery section at Cafe Nordstrom is incredible. The pastries and selection of baked goods includes a variety of made-from-scratch cookies, lemon bars, layer cakes, creme brulee and much more!

My son loved and devoured this rich chocolate brownie…

cafe-nordstrom-macaroon

This TOASTED COCONUT MACAROON was divine and my personal favorite.

I indulged but I felt guilt free because the food was fresh and made with high quality ingredients. Everything we tried was delicious and the prices are affordable.

cafe-nordstrom-brule

CREME BRULEE (my daughter’s favorite)

dine-cafe-nordstrom

Cafe Nordstrom is family friendly and they offer a kids’ menu.

cafe-nordstrom

We love this place so much, we have been back a couple of times since. The service was exceptional, and our overall experience was wonderful.

Mathnasium Two Month Progress Update

My son has been attending Mathnasium in Laguna Niguel, two times a week for last two months. This Math tutoring program has been extremely beneficial to my son, and he has improved in mathematics tremendously. In fact, we have decided to officially enroll our child in the program.

Last week, I met with the director of the program to check on my son’s progress. I was pleased to learn that in the short amount of time, he has improved by exactly twenty percent! (After two months, Mathnasium conducts a partial assessment to check the student’s progress, and a final assessment is given after a year)

This school year my son started fourth grade, and he has been introduced to more complex and difficult math concepts. Initially, he was struggling and was a bit discouraged in school. Just when we started to look for a math tutor, Mathnasium in Laguna Niguel came to the rescue! We were thrilled to learn about this incredible math center in OC. It is staffed by college-educated, Mathnasium-certified instructors who work with each child individually.

At Mathnasium, my son is taught by caring and knowledgeable instructors well-versed in integrating Mathnasium’s techniques with the math curriculum used in local Orange County schools.

Compensation: Thank you Mathnasium  for letting my son try your tutoring service for free. All opinions are my own.

mathnasium-learning-center
The program began with an assessment to determine his current math level. This assessment is designed to pinpoint a child’s strengths and weaknesses. These results provide the foundation from which Mathnasium constructs the student’s customized learning plan for each child.
During the two month trial period, he worked several math topics including: addition, subtraction, multi-digit multiplication, inequality symbols, skip counting, division, naming fractions, inequality symbols and so much more…
The Mathnasium Method uses a unique combination of mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written techniques to help children really understand math, and has been developed over more than 40 years of practical experience with thousands of students.
The first half of the hour session my son worked on math concepts. The second half he used to work on homework. Also, when he had an upcoming math exam he took his study guide to review with his tutor.
mathnasium-laguna-niguel
Prizes and Incentives!
My son is given prizes and candy for his hard work and good behavior. After each session, he looks forward to spinning the wheel for a candy. Also, my son’s math worksheet and a card is stamped. This accumulation of stamped cards can go towards redeeming a big prize.
This prize system definitely motivates my son to work harder, and to be on his best behavior. He often looks at the games a toys on display with glistening eyes. I can see him makes a mental notes of the prizes he desires.
Mathnasium-laguna-niguel
In the short amount of time that my son has been enrolled in the program, his improvement in Math has not gone unnoticed. He recently received this award at school. Since starting Mathnasium, he has become more confident and enthused about going to school!
My son’s overall experience has been positive, encouraging, and promising. My kiddo raves about his tutors and looks forward to going every week! As a mom, I am thrilled about his progress and the self-confidence he has gained.

If your child struggles in Math, this place is to take your child for exceptional tutoring!

The center is at the corner of La Paz and Oso Parkway / Pacific Park Drive in the Sprouts and Home Depot shopping center

Thank you Armstrong Garden Centers for inviting me to your Santa Barbara Wreath making class. All opinions are my own.

Wreath-Armstrong-class

I love the smell of a fresh wreath during the holidays!

I learned from my instructor that Santa Barbara Wreaths can be made with different plants from in and around my garden.

Wreath-Armstrong-class

Our fresh wreaths were picked out for us, laid out,  and were ready for decorating.

Wreath-Armstrong-class

I made my Santa Barbara Wreath with eucalyptus, pine cones, berries and succulent clippings…

Wreath-Armstrong-class

Our friendly instructor walked us through the process…

Wreath-Armstrong-class

I cut a 4″ floral wire from a spool and wrapped the bundle of my selected plants. I made about 7 bunches, then attached them to my wreath. The bunches were place in the direction of the grain.

Have you been to LEGOLAND California during the holidays?

If not, you should!

Earlier this month, my daughter Tori and I put on our winter jackets, scarves, and gloves and headed to LEGOLAND California for their annual tree lighting ceremony. Hilary Duff was the evening’s guest of honor, and launched the spectacular event. Now through January 1st head on to LEGOLAND for some holiday fun!

My daughter grew up watching Lizzie Mcguire, and was thrilled to see her childhood icon up close at the ceremony.  Hillary Duff, is popularly known as a star on the critically-acclaimed and buzzy TV Land series “Younger.” She spent the day enjoying all the attractions at the park with her son and family before heading to the giant LEGO Christmas tree for the evening’s festivities.

Disclosure: Thank you LEGOLAND California for inviting me to your annual tree lighting ceremony. All opinions are my own. LEGOLAND-holidays

Prior to Duff pulling the switch that turned on more than 11,000 LED lights on the 30-foot tall Christmas tree, she was presented with a LEGO castle ornament as an invitation to return in the spring when the new LEGOLAND Castle Hotel is set to open!

At the ceremony, LEGOLAND California Resort donated $10,000 on Duff’s behalf to Baby2Baby, which provides low-income children ages 0-12 years with diapers, clothing and other basic necessities. By distributing to non-profit partner organizations including homeless and domestic violence shelters, Head Start programs, foster care programs and children’s hospitals, Baby2Baby will serve more than 150,000 children in Los Angeles this year and tens of thousands more across the country through the Baby2Baby National Network.

“I feel so fortunate to work with such an amazing group of people who really focus on mothers, children and babies tirelessly to give them the basic necessities that everyone deserves,” said Duff.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Now In Theaters

As a young girl, Star Wars was the center of my galactic daydreams. After the release of the Empire Strikes Back in 1980, Princess Leia became my idol. She was a strong, gorgeous, and a badass princess. One halloween, I constructed a homemade Leia costume. My costume consisted of an old ivory bed sheet, and my hair wrapped into two buns. My mother wasn’t fond of my creation, and begged me to dress into something more classic. She said, “Can’t you be Raggedy Ann?  A princess? A nun? COME ON MIJA, ANYTHING ELSE?!” I winked at her and I headed out to trick or treat (with an overflow of self confidence might I add).

Earlier this week, my childhood dream came true… My son and I screened Star Wars: The Last Jedi, at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. The whole experience was memorable and magical! This new epic film can now be seen in theaters everywhere

Thank you Disney for inviting me to screen Star Wars: The Last Jedi. All opinions are my own.
