Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Movie Review

We often go to cheesy kid movies with our kids out of love for them. We pretend to understand everything they talk about, and to love everything they remotely care about because… that’s the motherly thing to do. Take Assassin’s Creed for example. Do I love Cal Lynch? Uh, well, which one was that again? But, If you ask my son what I think about Assassins Creed? He’ll say, “I love it.” That’s just what we do as parents. We adore our dang kids, and want to find things in common with them. But I have found that my son and I actually DO have something in common. We both enjoy movies! Earlier this month, we got a sneak peek of MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL.

My son loves Syfi, action, and comedy flicks. I love dramas, romcoms, and adventure films. Finding movies that bond our two loves, can be tricky. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, however, left us both on the edge of our seats, eager to see what was going to happen next. The movie itself sent many powerful messages. This twisted fantasy was everything I hoped for (and more).

Synopsis:

A formidable queen causes a rift between Maleficent and Princess Aurora. Together, they must face new allies and enemies in a bid to protect the magical lands which they share. In this movie, you will experience bold, cinematic visuals. My son pointed out that the women in the film were “fearless” and “unique,” just how a woman should be portrayed.

The mythology that goes along with the cast’s spectacular performance, fits into the list of Disney Classics perfectly. Angelina Jolie goes above and beyond to not only fit the physical qualities of Maleficent, but she also accurately portrays the emotional qualities of this complicated witch. Through the course of this film, the audience will learn the importance of confidence and individuality. As a 43-year-old woman, I felt unbelievably empowered by the portrayal of all the women in this film. My son witnessing characters like Maleficent, is extremely important to me. Quite frankly, it’s important for the development of all young boys. This film has no damsel in distress, has no woman dependent on a man, and that is what I like and expect to see more of in the future movie world.

BRAVO Disney! This movie is for all the women, and girls ready to be portrayed as the strong heroes that they are. Maleficent: Mistress of evil is now on my list of favorites. I’m so glad I got to watch it with my little guy!

Disney fans… This movie is a MUST-SEE!

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil- Angelina Jolie Shares Inspirational Message

I painted my nails black, put on my red lipstick, and off I went to interview the spectacular cast of Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil. I arrived at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, eager to discuss the new Disney film set to hit theaters October 18, 2019. The plot twists, the empowerment, and the hidden messages has made this sequel possibly one of my favorite Disney Movies of all time. Yeah, I said it. Maleficent rocks.

I got to the Montage extra early and sat in the front row as Angelina Jolie (“Maleficent”), Michelle Pfeiffer (“Queen Ingrith”), Elle Fanning (“Princess Aurora”), Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Conall”), Sam Riley (“Diaval”), Harris Dickinson (“Prince Phillip”), and Ed Skrein (“Borra”) took their places.

The tone of this Disney Movie junket was a little different than others I had attended before. The topics were deep, and the conversation was much more profound. The cast brought up topics about empowerment, individuality, motherhood, and much more!

About Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora. The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within. The film is directed by Joachim Rønning from a story by Linda Woolverton and a screenplay by Linda Woolverton and Micah Fitzerman-Blue & Noah Harpster, the film is produced by Joe Roth, Angelina Jolie and Duncan Henderson with Matt Smith, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Michael Vieira serving as executive producers.

Angelina Jolie talked about her motherly relationship with Aurora in the new film.

“We are the pink beautiful soft princess, and we are the slightly manic creature that maybe has a very bad temper, and many many other things. And yet I see her, exactly as she is, and I don’t want her to be any different than she is. And she sees me as I am, and she accepts me as I am. And so, it is to say to everybody, be yourself. Be your true self. We don’t live forever. Say to children, no matter how people see you and say you should be, you’ll suffocate. Be your true nature, whatever that may be. And you will find a home and you will find acceptance.”

This hit a chord and was inspiring. It was perhaps my favorite message at this  junket. I desperately tried to hold back my tears.

This female empowering film, is way overdue and could have not come at a better time. This sensational and progressive film will no doubt go down in the book as a favorite Disney Classic.

Take your young sons and daughters, and go see Maleficent: Mistress of Evil it in theaters Friday October 18th!

Crayola Glitter Dots Celebration at The Magic Workshop

Last month, we had a one-of-a-kind experience celebrating Crayola Glitter Dots at JMP Creative’s “The Magic Workshop” in Irvine, California! We spent a a magical day playing with Crayola Glitter Dots, and took a VIP tour of their insanely cool toy inventor’s workshop.

Check out our photo recap below!

Thank you Crayola Glitter Dots for inviting us to create with you at the JMP Creative Magic Workshop! All opinions are my own.

About Crayola Glitter Dots

These sparkly, squishy dots create 3D effects on all kinds of surfaces. Check out our Glitter Craft Kits, Sparkly Supply Sets, and more items for fun ways to make glitter art and DIY glitter crafts. Squish and spread the Glitters Dots, and let the dazzling designs sparkle.

There were so many adorable photo ops. JMP Creative’s The Magic Workshop is an amazing wonderland for toy inventing and content creators!

Why creating is so important

Creating art may boost young children’s ability to analyze and problem-solve. Fostering creativity increases your child’s confidence. You’re also helping him develop mentally, socially, and emotionally.

Kids can increase their artistic skills while enhancing cognitive development when participating in art creation. They learn colors, values, shapes, and drawing while practicing critical thinking skills (this is so important). Let your kids find out what happens when they mix colors together. Not to mention, art is a lot of fun!

We had a blast playing, creating, and taking fun pictures with Crayola!

Thank you Crayola for a fun filled magical day! We can’t wait to create more!

Knott’s Spooky Farm 2019 is Spook-tacular!

This week my son and his friends headed to Knott’s Spooky Farm, to enjoy a spooktacular day at one of our favorite theme parks. Halloween can be a bit too scary for kids when it comes to theme parks. Frightening, bloody stuff is never fun for my little ghost. Luckily, Knotts Spooky Farm always has the perfect balance of traditional Halloween amusement, with just a touch of family-friendly spook.

My family and I are Halloween fanatics and love participating in all things Halloween. However, with my youngest son, we struggle to find age-appropriate things to do. Even after watching movies like Casper the Ghost, my little ghost still somehow ends up in my bed at night! (yes, it’s still just a little too scary.) With Knotts Spooky Farm, we never have this problem! It’s just one parade of fun!

Thank you Knott’s Berry Farm for Inviting my family to #KnottsSpookyFarm. All opinions are my own.

We hit some wonderful #spooktacular spots in the theme park that I want to share with you!

About Knott’s Spooky Farm

Knott’s Berry Farm offers a daytime non-scary event of cheer rather than fear with activities all geared for young kids ages 3-11. Both children and parents LOVE  Knott’s Spooky Farm, and the admission is included when you purchase your Knott’s Berry Farm entry. Knott’s Spooky Farm runs September 28 – October 27 and Thursday, October 31, 2019.

Trick-or-Treating and Costume contests!

My son and his crew got their candy fix in Ghost Town! Kids ages 3-11 can participate in Trick-or-Treating throughout Ghost Town, and interact with friendly, dressed-up Shopkeepers. While also enjoying the Camp Snoopy Theater Peanuts Costume Contest. After all that fun, the kids were able to join their favorite Peanuts characters at a fun Peanuts Dance Party!

Photo Credit to Knott’s Berry Farm

As we walked around, we stumbled upon Calico Park- where we found a Pumpkin patch! This location is for families and friends to have an opportunity to personalize miniature jack-o-lanterns and decorate scrumptious cookies along with Linus from the PEANUTS gang. My son and his friends couldn’t resist eating delicious cookies, while creating their jack-o-lantern masterpieces!

After our delicious treats at Calico Park, we headed back to Camp Snoopy, and hopped aboard the Grand Sierra Railroad! We experienced a one-of-kind adventure along Camp Spooky with the PEANUTS gang. We spotted 2D and 3D seasonal themed characters, along with some awesome ghostly effects!

I couldn’t resist visiting Fiesta Village, where the Dia de Los Muertos Celebration is in full swing! The themed area offers a walk through the village filled with photo ops, educational activities and face paintings (for a nominal fee). I love to see all the colorful calaveras (skulls) in the gift shop…

Our last stop was at the beloved Halloween Hootenanny! The Timber Mountain Log Ride transforms into a creepy, family-friendly delight! People of all ages (*cough* *cough* including me!) love this ride. We never leave Knotts Spooky farm without riding it!

My son and his friends had a killer time! I couldn’t have asked for a greater trip, and gosh, did I enjoy an empty bed to catch those zzz’s!

Spider-Man Far From Home Field Trip

Where are all my Spidey fans?

Last month, in celebration of the Spider-Man Far From Home release, I went on a EPIC field trip without the kids! It was nice to just drop them off at school, and get in a little me time. Here is a photo recap of our INCREDIBLE day with the creators of Spider-Man Far From Home film…

You can now watch it at home on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital!

Thank you Sony Studios for inviting me to the Spider-Man Far From Home field trip.

Synopsis:

Peter Parker’s relaxing European vacation takes an unexpected turn when Nick Fury shows up in his hotel room to recruit him for a mission. The world is in danger as four massive elemental creatures — each representing Earth, air, water and fire — emerge from a hole torn in the universe. Parker soon finds himself donning the Spider-Man suit to help Fury and fellow superhero Mysterio stop the evil entities from wreaking havoc across the continent.

My family thinks it is absolutely hilarious that they call him Night Monkey in the film. This film is great for the entire family!

We lined up like good little students, and boarded the bus.

Our tour guides were none other than Martin Star and J.B. Smoove! (Mr. Harrington and Mr. Dell in the film) How cool is that?

These guys kept us entertained from the minute we boarded the bus. I can’t remember when I laughed this hard.

Martin Starr is an actor and comedian. He is known for the television roles of Bill Haverchuck on the short-lived comedy-drama Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000), Roman DeBeers on the comedy series Party Down (2009–2010), and Bertram Gilfoyle in the HBO series Silicon Valley (2014–present), as well as for his film roles in Knocked Up (2007), Adventureland (2009), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

J. B. Smoove is an actor, writer, comedian and voice actor. Smoove started his career off with the television series Def Comedy Jam in 1995. He plays Leon on the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm. J.B. also starred on the CBS sitcom The Millers from 2013 to 2015. Smoove portrayed a fictionalized version of himself on the BET improv-comedy reality television parody Real Husbands of Hollywood and performed in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

Our first stop …. The Third Floor Studio in Los Angeles.

Here the Spidey team talked about there collaborations, and the behind the scenes work to make this this phenomenal movie come to life. The Third Floor is responsible for several movies we see today including: Several Marvel films, Game of Thrones, Detective Pikachu, and much more!

About The Third Floor

A European excursion goes south as Peter Parker finds himself up against the elements in Spider-Man: Far From Home (Sony Pictures Entertainment).  In a repeat collaboration with Director Jon Watts, THE THIRD FLOOR mapped out Spider-Man’s adventure across multiple action and story beats in a transcendent journey that leads us far back home into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Next stop… Ironhead Studios

For me this was one of my personal highlights of the trip. I was totally geeking out when Jose Fernandez, talked about how he and his team create costumes for several studios. He is the driving force at Ironhead Studio, and has been the lead creative artist behind some of the most memorable work of the last two decades!

The details an artistry in these costumes were absolutely incredible. Some of them can take several months to create.

Our last stop… was The Magic Castle!

Last but not least we stopped at the Magic Cast for an incredible magic show by illusionist, Jason Latimer.

I have alway dreamt about going here, and this was another pinch me moment. The show was sensational. There were many jaw dropping and surprising moments.

Jason Latimer is a world champion magician, curator of the iconic Fleet Science Center, and co-host of the Science Channel series SciJinks. Latimer unites magic and science to inspire curiosity and demonstrate how the right question changes everything.

From bending light to shaping water, his illusions are featured globally on Television Specials, Series, Live Shows, STEM Labs, & science festivals. Latimer’s works has sparked millions of minds to embrace their ability to wonder.

The Spider-Man Far From Home themed treats we perfect for the occasion.

Thank you Sony Studios for the incredible day trip. This will go down in my memory book as of my most favorite press trips!

I Like Scary Movies Experience In Los Angeles

Written By Matthew Banuelos

“Do you like scary movies? What’s your favorite scary movie?” (Scream-1996)

Hello, boils and ghouls, this is Instagram’s spookiest So-Cal blogger, the MovieMacabreNerd coming to you for a special news update. As you all know, the GREATEST and SCARIEST time of the season is slowing creeping its ugly head upon us. Halloween, the Season of the Witch is close at hand. What does that mean, you may ask? Well, kiddies, tricks and treats, of course! I am here, today, in place of your favorite and lovely QueenLatinaBee to announce that I have one heck of a treat to share with you. Although this treat is not edible, it is sure to give your artistic taste-buds a MAJOR sweet tooth! This treat hails in the City of Angels. May I present to you, the one and only…. “I Like Scary Movies Experience”!

Back due to popular demand, “I Like Scary Movies” is your one stop shop for all things horror.

“I Like Scary Movies” is interactive art experience whereas the Twilight Zone’s very own Rod Sterling would say, “You are the star.” You are put into a realm where nightmares become reality, where the grotesque and terrifying transform into fantastic forms of unmatched beauty.  “I Like Scary Movies” is a groundbreaking art experience and love letter to five of the horror genre’s greatest films and franchises. They include: Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining”, Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Stephen King’s It”, Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice”, and lastly “Friday the 13th”.

Being the HUGE GEEK of all things creepy and crawly, I jumped at the opportunity given to me to attend this blogger’s event. There was no way I was going to pass this up. I had the honor and privilege to attend this ghastly experience with the always beautiful undead queen of the underworld, @bekah. If someone told me a decade ago that the grooviest undead photo-op art experience would be created and opened to the public audience in Los Angeles, I don’t know if I would have believed them. In a world now where superheroes and Midichlorian-postive, lightsaber-wielding Force users are “THE COOL THING” to geek over, “I Like Scary Movies” Experience makes you question that logic.

I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather take a photo in the secluded, Cabin-fever mountains of the Overlook Hotel with the axe-murder victim Grady twins or in the nightmarish dreamworld of finger-knived bogeyman, Fred Kreuger. Heck, if you enjoy watching dancing clowns float or spending your summer vacation in the forest with a masked killer on the loose, “I Like Scary Movies” has got you covered. I had a HELL of a time (pun intended) at “I like Scary Movies”. The amount of time, effort and detail (by the artists) put into everything inside this experience is sure to bring shivers to your spine.

Everything at this experience is interactive and makes for the GREATEST photos and selfies ever! This ain’t no joke, Pennywise! Buy your tickets, today for this once-in-a-lifetime gem! You can thank me later, trust me. “I like Scary Movies” Experience puts the “KI KI KI”…. in “MA MA MA”!!!!

Downton Abbey Movie Hits Theaters

Written By Clarissa Camacho

Last week, Queenbeelatina Media screened and celebrated the new Downton Abbey Film. We arrived at the Four Season hotel in Beverly Hills, where we were gifted delicious cupcakes and treats. After consuming what felt like a million delicious Magnolia cupcakes, we interviewed Elizabeth McGovern, Allen Leech and Hugh Boneville.

Thank you Focus Features Films for inviting us to screen the Downton Abbey Movie. All opinions are my own.

Downton Abbey fanatics unite!

Four years after the spectacular ending of the Downton Abbey Series, Carnival Productions welcomes fans to the long awaited Downton Abbey film. Downton Excitement is high at Downton Abbey when the Crawley family learns that King George V and Queen Mary are coming to visit. But trouble soon arises when Mrs. Patmore, Daisy and the rest of the servants learn that the king and queen travel with their own chefs and attendants — setting the stage for an impromptu scheme and other shenanigans.

The Interview

After screening this beautiful film, we laughed and cried as we recounted the events of this story. Our hearts yearned for more of Violet Crawley; as one can never get enough of her wittiness. As fans, we so wanted to see more of Cora Crowley’s elaborate dresses, and her elegant classiness.

We asked the beloved Elizabeth McGovern what she thought about coming back to character, she left after the series finale. Her eyes smiled as she responded, “It’s a luxury in some ways, because the fact that you don’t have to think about all those things that you think about when you’re just creating the character to begin with, How do they talk? How do they walk? How do they sit? And since it’s so deeply in our bones, you can just play it.”

I looked over at Allen Leech he grinned, “..The minute you start reading the script and then when you start getting into your costume, your realize it’s actually muscle memory.”

For the audience, this film started where it left off. I’ve always loved watching the Crawley families highlights, because it reminds us to recognize ours.

Hugh Boneville put it beautifully, “[Downton Abbey] taught me something as a father, a father of a teenager. That we’ve actually all made our own mistakes.” (Which reminded me of my favorite quote from the show).

Carson: “Hard work and diligence weigh more than beauty in the real world.”

I constantly recite that to my sisters, because it truly does ring true. Downton Abbey never fails to educate audiences. The lessons, and the elegance that comes with the film is ageless.

It was memorable and beautiful day! I can’t wait to watch this movie for the years to come…

Watch Downton Abbey in theaters today!
